From day one, we’ve invested heavily in R&D to build Reverse Engineering software tools, to transform a single point solution into an all-in-one platform that integrates 3D scanning workflow on the shop floor all over the world direct to 3D CAD.

Where technology plays to win !

Our founders pioneered the early CAD-integrated methods for reverse engineering over 30 years ago, working with renowned organizations such as BELL Helmets, U.S. Olympic Sport Science, the U.S. Olympic ski team, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

During this time, NIST’s shop of the 1990s became one of the first applications of our vision, aptly named “Napkin to Product,” for reverse engineering in both sports and U.S. job shops. Through these efforts, we demonstrated the transformative power of NIST’s shop-floor-proven technology to enhance real-world performance.

Specifically, the program involved capturing the geometries of skis, helmets, and athletes’ body postures using cutting-edge 3D scanning technology. This data was then reverse-engineered to optimize aerodynamics. As a result, the insights gathered helped reduce drag and improve skier speeds, ultimately giving athletes a critical competitive edge.

  

ReverseEngineering.com was created to provide a convenient and innovative way to address a critical issue faced by shop floor engineers: the significant loss of man-hours spent on translating 3D digitized data between CAD/CAM systems to create manufacturable models from molds, models, and organic hand-shaped physical parts.

Traditional reverse engineering workflows required extensive time and effort to convert data using formats like IGES to share XYZ CMM data across multiple CAD/CAM platforms. This often resulted in inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and potential errors, costing valuable production time. The reverse engineering software envisioned to eliminate the lost man-hours of data translation using IGES to share XYZ CMM data through multiple different CAD/CAM software platforms.

The inspiration came from the founders working with the US Olympic as part of the NIST “Shop of the Nineties” initiative, a groundbreaking program launched by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) in the 1990s to drive innovation in U.S. manufacturing. Through this initiative, ReverseEngineering.com was able to leverage cutting-edge advancements in 3D scanning, metrology, and data integration, laying the foundation for its industry-leading software solutions.

By partnering with NIST, ReverseEngineering.com incorporated precision measurement technologies and streamlined workflows that would go on to transform reverse engineering, tool building, and quality inspection processes across various industries. The collaboration with NIST helped the company pioneer robust software tools that seamlessly integrate with CAD platforms, meeting the growing needs of modern manufacturing.
